ABOUT US

Origin

In 2000, The Housing Partnership initiated an education and advocacy program, the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast. The group's mission is, through a united coalition of businesses, government, and community groups, to be a catalyst for the development of a range of housing options for the diverse workforce in the Greater Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Maine.

The Coalition is a business-led effort, which recognizes the link between housing availability and regional economic vitality. The Workforce Housing Coaltion is the first such program of its kind in the state. It is now sister to six regional coalitions and a statewide council.

Strategic Goals

With the support of over 150 businesses, government and community leaders, we are working to educate the region about the need for a balanced supply of housing, advocate for a streamlined regulatory environment, and support developers committed to creating quality, workforce housing.

Together our efforts will stimulate the approval and construction of a significant number of units that might not otherwise be built.

To achieve our mission, we have outlined goals for 2006

ADVOCATE for zoning changes in carefully selected communities in New Hampshire and Maine where elected officials, planning boards or community members are ready for change - to stimulate workforce housing production

Increase the INFLUENCE and credibility of the Workforce Housing Coalition through the increased participation of employers in New Hampshire and Maine -to stimulate workforce housing production

PARTICIPATE in matters of statewide concern, while maintaining our primary focus at the local level
